Bucks County Association of Township Officials

The Association and Purpose

The Pennsylvania General Assembly authorized the formation of County Associations by statute and clearly set forth what county Associations' shall and may do, including considering and discussing questions and subjects pertaining to the improvement of Township government. The Association by-laws, revised in 2009 to better reflect the changing landscape of governing as a Township Official, clearly set forth its role, responsibilities, and purpose.

The purpose of the Bucks County Association of Township Officials (BCATO), formed in 1908, is to advance the best interests of townships of the second class of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, to aid in the exchange of ideas and experiences among Bucks County Township Officials, and to promote a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of township officials. The BCATO is comprised of officials from 29 of the 30 townships of the second class in the fourth largest county in Pennsylvania, and is Governed by an Executive Board presented and approved by the membership, and an Executive Director directs its operations and mission.

This Association promotes cooperation with existing governmental agencies in the County of Bucks and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, communicates with representatives of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, and works with other similar organizations in the surrounding geographic area and the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors.
